Around the age of thirteen, discussions about transitioning into adulthood should begin as part of your student’s ARD meetings. Looking to the future beyond school can be a scary and unwelcomed subject for some parents, but being prepared will ultimately become a necessary task as your student ages. And, depending on the student’s abilities, there could be many things to consider for their future.
We want this page to be informational for parents. It is important to begin the process of thinking about the future. While there are many organizations out there, we will only list a handful here. The most important thing will be for parents to begin the information gathering process.

This is a great website to begin your informational journey. This organization holds conferences, workshops, etc., to help families with students with disabilities begin their pathway to adulthood.
Additionally, they publish an inventory checklist for parents to consider for their students as they begin their pathway to adulthood. This document covers a variety of topics to consider for your student including guardianship, links to waiver programs, social security links, medical services, Able accounts, DADs, and more.
